Ep 80 / Chatting with Celia Muñoz about how to create a coherent brand “made in Spain” from London
Do you know that feeling when you go from being a client and admirer to being able to have that person on the other side of the screen? Well, we have lived it thanks once again to our podcast.
Because we have been lucky enough to be able to chat, from London, with an inspiring woman who conveys affection, professionalism and great values from her brand. This is Celia Muñoz, creator of The Coquette . A children's fashion brand that is successful in the United Kingdom... and around the world!
We admire Celia's coherence, her values, her designs... and how she manages time as a mother of five children. “My day is very similar to that of many women, we are all experts in organizing ourselves well. I have a very strict schedule and for me it is essential to plan it well in advance.”
Celia studied Psychology motivated by her father but very soon realized that she, a woman with a commercial and communicative vocation, wanted to go further and create her own business. Recently graduated, this Grenadian with a French mother landed in London, where she founded her children's fashion brand and created a large family. “I remember that I started bringing Spanish clothes and selling them in London. It was a success, at that time there was no offer there and it was very popular.” That was the beginning of a long path of research until creating La Coqueta.
She had a laborious job doing a very exhaustive market study and research that took her two years. “It was a difficult and lonely time, but it was very important for me to take this step and know what demand there would be for my product.” A lot of study, a great team and Spanish suppliers are some of the keys to this “proudly made in Spain” brand.
A children's design and fashion brand with three basic pillars: suppliers, team and clients. For Celia, the daily work for so many years with her suppliers is essential. “In the beginning my suppliers taught me a lot and we still continue working together today. My first call of the day is to talk to them.”
In these years he has known how to surround himself with a team that is now his second family. “My team is key and very stable, we are growing a lot.” Celia has a very close relationship with the people who work with her, whose honesty she values. “The important thing is personal and professional honesty. We grow, and in interviews I look for people who can contribute something new that I cannot contribute. I also value curious people who look for new things.”
The love for details is evident in each La Coqueta garment. Your inspiration? “My children, my clients and the taste that I have inherited from my mother. She is French and dressed us in a mix of Spanish and French fashion that has always inspired me a lot when creating.” Without a doubt, its “proudly made in Spain” brand has just that “je ne sais quoi” that makes it so unique and special.
For us, La Coqueta has managed to coherently transmit its values and has gone one step further by highlighting its commitment to sustainability. Because Celia is an ambassador for Plant for the Planet, an organization that works for a sustainable future focused on the importance of reforesting the planet. “This initiative was born from our children. They have committed us and we got started, using the La Coqueta channels to be able to execute it.” And Celia, her family and La Coqueta have a big job on their hands: planting a million trees. “It's a life project.”
At the moment they are planting many trees in Mexico and working on a large plantation in Granada. “We feel very committed to my city. My dream would be to see the Vega de Granada full of trees, for Granada to be a model city in tree planting and reforestation. Let them come from all over the world to visit it and see what the city has done.”
A dream in which she puts all her effort and passion, as in everything Celia does since she gets up at six in the morning. And what is the first thing you think about when the day starts? He tells you that and much more in our podcast.
