Ep 68 / Chatting with Patricia Mateo about taking on the world
Patricia Mateo and I knew each other through friends who told us that we had to meet each other, and confinement made us finally meet in the same place, in our homes and on Instagram. I can say that Patricia ( @patriciamateo ) accompanied me from the first day, just as I accompanied you with the videos. Every day I cooked with her and learned endless peculiarities of cooking, food and restaurants that ended up forming a list for when we could finally leave the house.
A few weeks ago we finally sat down at the same table, and I'm not exaggerating if I say that we licked our fingers with an outrageous Chilli Crab in a 3-hour meal where we didn't stop talking for a minute.
Chatting with her is an enjoyment of cooking, she herself wanted to be a cook, and you can tell that she is passionate about what she talks about. She comes from a family of communication and business people, and feels very entrepreneurial at heart. At the age of 27 he rode Mateo and Co as a generalist agency, but her personal taste and passions led her to choose clients more related to food and restaurants over others. He came to that area of communication to invent everything, no one had focused on it before and it has grown non-stop from the first moment. His great challenge is to team up with restaurants and food brands, to be someone who raises the quality of products and makes them palatable for everyone.
We live in a golden moment for eating and a key moment in our own evolution, there is a lot to choose from and we have to do it well, discover and know what we eat and why we eat it. Madrid is its home and its playground, since this city has the potential to be one of the great world capitals of gastronomy, and we are on the way to a culinary maturity that places us on a par with New York or London.
At the beginning of the confinement, the sudden stop made her put her energy into José Andrés' NGO, and raise from nothing World Central Kitchen Spain . She coordinated the opening of kitchens, checked that everything met the standards that arrived as endless manuals, and called all the cooks who began preparing meals for those who had nothing. 1 million meals later, she looks at the project in amazement and, full of pride, continues to strive to help anyone to help feed even more people.
A few weeks ago they launched their latest challenge, the direction of Vocento Gastronomía , responsible for Madrid Fusion and San Sebastian Gastronomika , and that she is going to take it as far as everything she does.
Today's podcast is a master class in gastronomy, in the history of Spain, in its types and peculiarities, and of course in its experience communicating.
