Ep 47 / Chatting with Esther Martinez about the empowerment of rural women

This week's podcast makes us especially excited, since we do it with a person who belongs to the zubi family and who we also consider to be our own. Esther Martínez is the first worker we hired 4 years ago in Almonacid del Marquesado, Cuenca, where we have our workshop. She already knew our bags, what she didn't know is that she would end up becoming someone indispensable and completely trustworthy for us. Responsible for Logistics and Production, Esther is in charge of taking our seamstresses, managing the Gijón workshops and all the orders we make to suppliers in Spain. We spoke today with this superwoman about what it means for her to work from her town, for which she has unconditional love; about the pros and cons of living there and how he believes the future should be planned for people to return to living in rural areas.

Esther was born in Almonacid del Marquesado thirty-some years ago, a town that currently has about 300 inhabitants. He studied Business Administration and Management in Cuenca and finished his studies just when the crisis began. He spent two years from one place to another, until he finally decided to return to his town. There she appeared for a job interview for Zubi, from which Mer was impressed by how smart, organized and savvy she was and is. She is very proud of Almonacid and is, without a doubt, its best ambassador, since she has managed to organize an internationally renowned classical music festival-course that has been held every summer for 2 years.

She has also experienced the evolution that women have had in rural areas, where a few years ago, having university studies seemed like a chimera. He is very aware of the importance of towns having a good internet network that allows them to be connected to the world at all levels, a struggle that currently prevents them from growing as much as they would like in these areas. It takes 5 minutes to walk to work and boasts the calm and peace that reigns there every day, where stress and rush are conspicuous by their absence. The only disadvantage they find of living in a town is the low provision of health services and certain administrative procedures, which force them to travel to the nearest cities. We talked about this and the need for the change in mentality that people believe they need regarding rural areas in our podcast today. A podcast that will make you look at that town where you spend your summer with different eyes and ask yourself what if I were happier living here?
